The basis of my work is person-centred, which means it has a core of respect for you, the client, and a belief that you have the capacity for growth, well being, and integrity.
In addition to this I also draw on my knowledge and experience of many other counselling approaches, offering you the opportunity to engage in a process that feels right for you.
Counselling is a process of understanding and moving forward. It can help you gain insight
into yourself and your personal patterns – to work through what is and isn’t helpful. The counsellor is often able to understand more because they are separate from you and trained to help recognise, unravel and make progress on the issues that you bring to counselling. It’s a special relationship where the content is confidential and the focus always remains on you and what will help you. It’s a process of acceptance, empowerment, adjustment and transformation.
The decision to start counselling and choosing a counsellor can be a difficult time in itself; I offer a free initial 20 minute meeting to explore what it is you would like to look at in counselling and if we both feel that we could work together effectively on this. Alternatively, I also offer a longer initial meeting and first session in one, giving us chance to introduce ourselves and make a proper start on the work, this is charged at the standard session rate.
